How to Wear Blue Sapphire (Neelam)
According to traditional Vedic gemstone practices, a high-quality, natural Blue Sapphire (Neelam) should be set in gold or Panchaloha (five-metal alloy).
The gemstone is traditionally set in a ring designed so that the stone touches the wearer’s skin.
The ring is first cleansed and ritually purified before wearing.
Traditionally, special days and auspicious timings associated with Saturday and Lord Shani (Saturn) are considered suitable for wearing Neelam.
Some traditional practices recommend keeping the ring for purification in Gomutra (cow urine) on the first day, Panchagavya on the second day, and black sesame seeds on the third day, followed by cleansing with Panchamrita and pure water.
After this, Shodashopachara Puja (16-step traditional worship) is performed.
Traditional Wearing Procedure
Before wearing the ring:
Hold the ring in your right hand.
Face west and meditate on Guru (Jupiter) and Lord Ganesha.
Traditionally, one of the following mantras is chanted 108 times:
“Om Hreem Aim Hreem Shreem Shanaishcharaya Nirmamsa Shushka Dehaya Sarva Siddhim Dehi Dehi Swaha”
or
“Om Shanno Devi Rabhishtaya Apo Bhavantu Peetaye Shanyor Abhi Sravantunah”
Touch the ring gently to your eyes three times as part of the traditional practice.
Wear the ring on the middle finger.
Traditionally, the right-hand middle finger is commonly recommended. Some traditions permit the left-hand middle finger, so the practice may be followed according to one's family or spiritual tradition.
Note: These instructions are based on traditional Vedic astrology and gemstone customs. They are cultural/spiritual practices and are not scientifically proven to produce specific results.
"Do not wear Blue Sapphire together with Red Coral and Emerald in the same ring, except in Navaratna jewelry.”
